gbp’s staff team are the backbone of the gbp foundation, with many taking part in a wide range of volunteering activities to support local communities. Over the next few months, members of the gbpartnerships manage estates team are using their volunteering days to support the Good Shepherd with their Friday dining service.
Along with supporting the Good Shepherd with 64 hours of volunteering time, the gbpartnerships foundation also made a donation towards the costs of the food. The Good Shepherd have been providing regular food services in the city of Wolverhampton since 2003 and host a multi-agency hub bringing together a wide range of agencies including health, education, training, and support services. Their vision is to end homelessness in Wolverhampton and create sustainable pathways out of poverty, ensuring the most disadvantaged and marginalised have the support and opportunities they need to achieve their full potential. gbp's Assistant Estates Manager, Mac Uppal, arranged the volunteering sessions and with the first day completed alongside colleagues Louise Hallaron, Sarah Clarson and Abdul Hamid (pictured below), Mac reported back on how it had gone:
“The day started with signing into the building where the preparation and feed would be taking place. Once all the team were signed in and ready to go, we were given an introduction into what the charity is all about and how it runs on a daily basis – and how gbpartnerships is making a difference towards their work. We were then assigned our different roles such as greeting at the door, serving the meals and tea & coffee duties. After getting settled into our roles we spent the next two hours serving the homeless. Once this time was up, we assisted with the cleaning up and organising of any leftover food. This brought us to the end of a really enjoyable and worthwhile session."
